Living Water
Devotional
We live in a world that tempts us to be dissatisfied with the current state of our lives. We are encouraged to constantly search for something more but here in John 7, we learn how to have a soul that is satisfied. Instead of drinking the temporary waters of this world, allow yourself to be filled with the living water that only Jesus can offer!
37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
JOHN 7:37-39
Questions:
- In verse 37, Jesus invites the thirsty to come to him and drink. How would you describe the “thirsty?”
- In what area(s) of your life, are you demonstrating “thirst?” Explain.
- In what way(s) outside of Christ, have you tried to “quench” that thirst?
- In the midst of your thirst, how has Christ been calling you to come to him?
- As you come to him, how can you grow in helping others come to him?
Practice The Way of Jesus:
“I heard the voice of Jesus say, “Behold, I freely give the living water, thirsty one; stoop down and drink and live.” I came to Jesus, and I drank of that life-giving stream; my thirst was quenched, my soul revived, and now I live in him.” This quote should be the sentiment of every Christian. This week, reflect on how you can grow in coming to Jesus. Seek to share with a trusted friend how God might be calling you to grow.
