13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?" 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

MATTHEW 16:13-20

Questions:

  • “Jesus is building his church and wants to use disciples in the process.” How can you participate in this cause?
  • When is it most difficult for you to participate in the cause above?
  • What inspires you to serve God when it’s hard? Explain.
  • The gates of Hades will not overcome the church. How can this truth impact your investment in God’s church?

Practice The Way of Jesus:

12 See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.

HEBREWS 3:12-14

In this passage, we learn that we can’t remain faithful alone. We need each other. Do you have people that you encourage daily? Do you have people that encourgae you daily? This week, choose one person in the church to encourage.
