What the Law Says About Us | Exodus 19: Mount Sinai

June 11, 2025

In this reflection on God’s law, we take a closer look at the heart of the Old Testament—specifically, the 613 commandments given to the people of Israel. Rather than seeing these laws as a strict set of rules to follow, we’re invited to view them as a kind of mirror—one that reveals our flaws, our struggles, and our deep need for something greater. In Exodus 19, God calls Israel to be a “kingdom of priests and a holy nation,” but as their story unfolds, we see time and again how they fall short. This isn’t just about ancient history—it’s about us, too. Like Israel, we stumble. And through those failures, we begin to understand what Paul later explains in Romans and Galatians: that the law was never meant to perfect us, but to point us toward grace. Our imperfections don’t separate us from God—they open the door to experiencing His love, mercy, and redemption through Jesus in a deeper way.
